First Stop: Hol Chan Marine Reserve
Hol Chan, which means “little channel” in Mayan, is a natural break in the reef that has always been a highly productive fishing spot teeming with marine life. This opening in the reef allows marine creatures to move freely between the inside and outside of the reef. Designated as the first marine reserve in Belize in 1987, it has played a crucial role in the regeneration of species and the preservation of coral reefs. Known for its diverse marine life and vibrant corals, Hol Chan is often likened to an “underwater zoo” where visitors can witness a wide array of corals, fish, and even sea turtles. With over 160 species of fish and forty types of coral documented in the area, snorkeling here offers a unique opportunity to explore the underwater world for a minimum of one (1) hour.

Second Stop: Shark Ray Alley Reserve
Shark Ray Alley has a fascinating history. Throughout the years, it has served as a gathering point for local fishermen who would bring their catch and begin the process of cleaning it. This activity attracted marine creatures like nurse sharks and stingrays, as they associated the sound of boat engines with food. The water in this area is shallow and clear, allowing you to observe these magnificent creatures on the surface. Even if you choose not to enter the water, you can still appreciate their presence from the comfort of the boat. Although the nurse sharks and sting rays eventually swim away, the stop at Shark Ray Alley lasts for a maximum one (1) hour.
Next Adventure: Sailing to Caye Caulker Island
Caye Caulker embodies the essence of an idyllic Caribbean Island, offering a delightful juxtaposition to the bustling Ambergris Caye. Over the years, tourism has gradually flourished on this island, yet it has managed to preserve its serene and relaxed ambiance, epitomized by the motto “Go Slow”. Our visit includes a must-see spot called “the Split”, which serves as a gateway for leisurely village exploration. We have lunch here and spend approximately an hour exploring the walkable island.
